Additional Information & Description
Kew Gardens brings together the world’s largest living plant collection across 326 acres in London. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2003, it gives you room to explore plants on an exceptional scale, from carefully cultivated borders to collections housed in purpose-built glasshouses.
Three glasshouses, different growing worlds
Step into the Palm House to explore a tropical rainforest, then visit the Princess of Wales Conservatory, where ten climate zones support contrasting plant environments. The Temperate House adds architectural interest to its botanical collection: it is the largest surviving Victorian glasshouse, restored in 2018, and displays more than 10,000 plants. Together, these buildings let you explore markedly different growing conditions within the gardens.
Walk above the canopy and through the borders
The Treetop Walkway runs for 200 metres through the canopy of a forest glade, 18 metres above the ground, with views over the gardens. At ground level, follow the Great Broad Walk Borders or seek out the 18th-century Chinese pagoda and ornamental buildings. Botanical art galleries add another perspective on plants, while onsite restaurants provide places to pause during your visit.
Explore the science behind the gardens
The Hive, a 17-metre-high installation about bees, marks its tenth anniversary in 2026. The Carbon Garden turns attention to climate change, with a pavilion inspired by fungi and information about how plants can help address it. These features connect the visit to RBG Kew’s work as a science charity, reducing biodiversity loss and developing nature-based solutions to global challenges.
Palace access and ticket inclusions
Your ticket includes entry to Kew Gardens, access to permanent exhibitions, and a map and guide to the season’s highlights. It also includes Kew Palace, which is closed between January and 29 March. George III initially bought the palace for the royal children; many princes and princesses grew up there before it later served as a royal summer residence.
