Additional Information & Description
Prague’s medieval streets do not all lie at today’s pavement level. The Prague: Medieval Underground and Old Town Tour takes you several metres beneath the city to explore a surviving layer of its past, then follows the streets above to show how the Old Town changed over time.
Houses and streets beneath the Town Hall
Below the Old Town Hall, a labyrinth of medieval halls, passages and tunnels preserves former Romanesque and Gothic houses alongside an original street. The subterranean complex predates the Town Hall itself and is the largest of its kind in Prague. Moving through these spaces gives you more than a view of an underground chamber: you encounter buildings and a street that once formed part of the city above ground. Their position beneath the present-day centre makes the changing levels of Prague tangible.
Follow the Old Town’s changing street level
The surface route takes in Old Town Square, Malé Square, Platnéřská Street, Pařížská Street and the Faculty of Law. At the transition between the unspoiled streets of the Old Town and the redeveloped Jewish Quarter, the tour explores how Prague gradually grew in height. This part of the walk connects the buried urban spaces with the layout you see today, using the contrast between these neighbouring areas to explain the city’s development. The route extends the visit beyond the Town Hall into several distinct parts of the historic centre.
A small-group tour with a licensed guide
The two-hour tour includes entrance to the Medieval Underground of the Old Town Hall and a professional licensed guide. Live guiding is in English, and you explore with a small group. The guided format brings the underground remains and the streets above into one connected account of medieval Prague, rather than leaving you to interpret the surviving spaces on your own.
Arrival and digital tickets
The tour starts at Staroměstské náměstí 1/3 in Prague. Arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled start. Tickets are delivered instantly, and smartphone tickets are accepted, so you can present your ticket on your phone.
